Cat aging is not a simple one-to-seven conversion. Cats mature very quickly early in life. A commonly used veterinary comparison puts a 1-year-old cat at about 15 human years and a 2-year-old cat at about 24 human years. After age 2, each additional cat year is often estimated as roughly four human years.
Kitten development is especially fast: veterinary life-stage charts place a 1-month-old kitten at about 1 human year, 3 months at about 4 human years, and 6 months at about 10 human years. That is why a six-month-old kitten can already feel surprisingly grown up.
The 2021 AAHA/AAFP Feline Life Stage Guidelines use four age-related stages:
These life-stage labels are useful for general context, but an individual cat's health and aging can vary. Your veterinarian can assess your cat's actual health needs.
QuickAgeCalc treats cat-to-human age as an approximate comparison, not a biological or medical equivalence. The calculator uses the widely published 15 / 24 / +4 progression for adult cats, with kitten milestones interpolated from veterinary age-equivalency charts.
